Getting Started

When you call or email us we will set a time for your free and confidential consultation during which you will speak directly with attorney Craig Lane. After reviewing with you the information you provide, Mr. Lane will explain your options and the likely outcomes of each option. If you will gather the following information and bring it with you to the meeting, it will help greatly. We need to discuss:

  1. Your total gross income for the last 6 months (pay stubs are best, but otherwise anything that will show the income). If you are married, the total gross income of your spouse, even if he or she is not planning to file with you.

  2. A list of anything you owe to anyone. When in doubt, list it!

  3. The estimated value of the things you own. This includes real property (a house, a piece of land, a condo, etc.) and personal property (vehicles, furniture, electronics, etc.). Base your estimates on the items' age and amount of wear and tear; don't use the cost of buying new.

  4. Your monthly expenses—everything from housing and insurance to food and clothing. You can download a worksheet with suggested monthly expense categories to help jog your memory.

Do your best to provide thorough and accurate information at your consultation, BUT DO NOT let some missing information keep you from learning about the options you have, and the very real benefits a bankruptcy filing can provide you. For most of my clients, any anxiety they feel in coming to the meeting is greatly outweighed by the “light at the end of the tunnel” feeling they get during the meeting.
